For many Americans, the 2nd Amendment's right to "keep and bear arms" is among the most important parts of the U.S. Constitution.
But when it comes to types of firearms, what does that mean, exactly? Lately, Americans have been thinking hard about that question after the shooting deaths of 20 children and six adults at an elementary school in Connecticut.
Lawmakers failed to get enough support for new gun control laws regulating certain types of semiautomatic firearms, and also failed to get background check legislation through the Senate.
